Samode Palace

The Samode Palace
Honestly speaking one of the most romantic places we have ever stayed in. This was to be the last beautiful hotel we decided to stay whilst in Rajasthan. Having driven through the small village of Samode, the road leads up to the Palace through a series of gates. Having seen pictures of the Palace in several guidebooks as well as in one of the latest editions of the Taj magazine, we arrived with very high expectations and could have easily been disappointed. This was not to be.

Family paintings add to making you feel a special guest !

All 43 rooms including 15 suites are different and we were kindly lead to different ones allowing us to choose our favourite. The suite we chose must embody all the romantic ideas that we have in the West about India, its Maharajas and their palaces. Marble pillars, block printed textiles, a balcony overlooking the bare hills as well as the gorgeous pool below... What impressed us most is the complex architectural design of the rooms (bedroom, divan, living room with terrace and bathroom) that made up our suite !

On top of this, we found the staff to be truly friendly as well as quick in their jobs, not a quality found in all hotels in India, not even the best ones. The Samode Palace is a magnificent collection of rooms : peaceful courtyards, stunning reception rooms as well as cozy corners decorated with antiques.

If staying at a 400 years old palace was not sufficient in itself, the Samode Palace can boast one of the most beautiful pool we have set our eyes on as well as all the modern amenities you might need (outdoor swimming pool, separate wading pool for children, Jacuzzi, fitness room, sauna, steam room and an Ayurvedic massage centre from mid-July to mid-May !

Here is a list of the amenities of the Samode Palace :
  • Air conditioning
  • Heating
  • Minibars
  • Satellite TV
  • IDD phones

The services of the Palace include :

  • Same day laundry
  • Safe deposit boxes
  • Travel desk
  • Money exchange counter
  • Gift shop

Feeling as though we were on our second honeymoon, we decided to skip the Taj Mahal in Agra and stay one day longer !
